Who we are: Therapeutic Vapes Australia is an information and retail business. We are not a pharmacy and we cannot supply therapeutic vapes. Only an Australian registered pharmacy can do that. This page explains how the pharmacy pathway works so you know what to expect. It is general information, not medical advice.
A lot of people put this conversation off because they are not sure how to open it, or they expect to be lectured. Pharmacists have this conversation constantly and are not there to judge you.
How to open it
Any of these work:
- “I’m trying to quit smoking. Can you talk me through the options?”
- “I’ve tried patches before and they didn’t work for me. What else is there?”
- “Can I speak to the pharmacist about stopping smoking?”
- “I want to stop vaping. Can you help with that?”
You do not need to know what you want before you go in. Working that out is the point of the conversation.
Useful things to have ready
- How much you smoke, cigarettes per day, and how soon after waking you have the first one. That second detail tells a pharmacist a lot about nicotine dependence.
- What you have already tried, and what went wrong.
- Your current medicines, including anything from the supermarket. Stopping smoking can change how some medicines work.
- Photo ID, if therapeutic vapes might come up.
Questions worth asking them
- Which option has the best evidence behind it for someone like me?
- Can I combine a patch with something faster-acting?
- What will this cost me per week, compared with what I spend on cigarettes?
- Are any of these subsidised, or cheaper on a concession card?
- What should I do when the cravings hit hardest?
- Can I come back and check in with you?
That last one matters more than people expect. Repeated brief support is associated with better outcomes than a single conversation, and it is free.
